On Friday night, penny chopped her own hair. A rite of passage, of course, but I was still shocked to walk into a bathroom sink full of hair. Full is a relative term as she really doesn't have much hair at all yet and it was the catalyst for this so who could be upset. warning: my low light photos kinda suck lately. haha
Doug and his fancy scissor skills did a fine, fine job.
And then on Monday Sophie and I went to her banquet for choir and, my goodness, it was a fancy affair!
She told me it was like homecoming attire so i just told her i would wear what she wears. Garden formal? sure i can do that. cocktail mini? why not???
ended up in dress pants and those awesome summer wedges that I ended up keeping. She ended up in an ADORABLE dress from H&M and, no lie, she was the classiest lady there. Seems like most teenagers get dressy and slutty all confused when they get dressed for things like this. hahaha.
ANYWAY, we sat through lots and lots of awards when we finally got to the choreographer awards for sound sensations.
Wait, first of all the whole choir goes and stands on the risers so you can take pictures of the group and they all stood there for a minute smiling and then some says, "now ugly faces!" and every single girl whips out their signature ugly face and the whole room starts cracking up and then they go back to smiling. (Ugly faces tradition started by Sophie and stemming from this very blog, remember!?!)
Then going back to the awards part so they start talking about how funny all the girls are and how the Rookie of the year award goes to a girl who is just so cool. "like she's going to be the coolest soccer mom and play beach vollyball but when it's time to work she really knows how to work and she does this "mannequin" dance and is this all around awesome girl and it's SOPHIE CHAMBERLAIN!!"
she freaking won the rookie of the year award! (they only give out 4 awards per choir.)
just a few days ago she told me about her barbie dance which is when she does any of their routines all robotic with flat hands on tip toe. It looks just like a BARBIE and she's apparently famous for it.
So she walks up to get the award and the students all start chanting, "DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!"
Just a few steps before the podium she starts barbie walking up to the girls and her leaders grab her and give her a hug and are laughing. she gets the awards and barbie walks off the stage. it was HILARIOUS. The whole time i kept thinking, who is this girl and why is she so rad! Oh, she's MINE and becasue she's SOPHIE. total proud mama moment.
Her best guy friend, Tyler, who is so very nice, got the rookie of the year for his choir. Too fun.
then we got home at 11 and were really tired this morning. (and that was like 2 days ago.)
