;
It all began with her good friends Jenny and Melissa kidnapping her at 8 am and taking her to the scout pancake breakfast. (this is the bishops family and we all were going to be there anyway, but it was a super special way to get there.) Then all of the scouts came to her table and sang happy birthday.
Immidiately following the breakfast, her choir had a 4 hour competition practice and the whole choir let it loose for her. Big cards signed by everyone, presents, a duet written for her and performed by Robin and Tyler (on guitar) two of her best choir buddies. people she wouldn't imagine wound up getting her little gifts or making extra effort to make her feel special on her big day. Thats the kind of kid she is. She wants everyone to feel good about themselves and they all want to give that back to her. i know that sounds cheesy but its true. i saw all evidence of it on her bed that night.
Then i picked up sophie, robin and marissa and dropped them off at the movies. they saw PROM, and said it was super fun. they shopped a little, got some pinkberry and then i picked them up, dropped the girls off at their houses and we immediately went over to Willa's house for a Birthday BBQ.
Sophie and Willa have known each other for 10 years! They met at preschool and were born on the exact same day. They celebrated their 4th birthdays together and on may 7th of this year they celebrated their 14th! We love the Witkoski-Fields' fam and together these girls are two of the wittiest, most interesting, random, funny, wickedly smart chicks around.
i'm not kidding. and that sentence proves that only i could produce such a person.
anyway. it was a very, VERY good day. also, we got her the iphone 3gs for her bday to which she instantly downloaded the facebook app. In less than 24 hours i realized that facebook is one of those things better left to the family computer and deleted the app from her phone. (She seemed ok with it.) Phones are great for texting and calling and, most importantly, the built in IPOD. But with 14-year-olds facebook is one continuous alert all. day. long!
anyway, good bday.
And then the week after we went to back to back awards dinners for sophie. both scholastic. She received The President's Award for Educational Excellence, the Junior Scholarship Federation Medal and the Dwight Bugh Scholastic Award (a plaque) for keeping a 4.0 for 5 consecutive semesters at Jordan. There were only 25 people out of 410 that recieved the award
{marissa, sophie and robin}
The Dwight Bugh award is our favorite, mainly because we get to say BAAUUUGGGHHH when referring to it. She works hard for her grades. I am really, really proud of her.
Ok and one last thing. (maybe two)
About a month ago, sophie had to audition for the High school choir. She sang the song from Tangled, the one about living in the tower, did an ear test on the piano, learned and performed a choreographed dance and then had to wait for two weeks to see where they place you.
Turns out sophie is one of 3 freshman to make it to the second highest choir at the school. and the other two are her best friends. No bribary or anything! her little trio made it to the all girls show choir. the top choir, powerhouse, is the choir that performed on Oprah not long after Glee first aired. These people are serious and i am a little bit nervous. (sounds kinda intense.)
Anyway, today sophie graduated from Middle School. talk about getting teary.
Now onto highschool then college then the world!
Man, i love this girl. we laugh. alot. it's my favorite thing to do with her. she loves shopping, playing soccer and she sleeps with her hair perfectly brushed and smoothed down to the side. (as opposed to my seriously kinked up-in-a-pony hair) She's so much cooler than i ever was.
I think she'll go far.
Happy Birthday/Graduation Month, my Sophina!
{i am trying to remember what she said she looks like in this photo that she hates. something like a petrified panda?? sorry soph, it's for posterity!}
p.s. on Saturday she went to her first STAKE DANCE! I told ya it was a busy month!
