Owen is in 5th grade and his teacher is very strict compared to 4th grade. Will be very good for this boy who is terrified of disappointing any teacher. We got his binder and supplies before school started and he made a handwriting chart (he has a bad handwriting complex) and slid it in clear cover of his binder. It seems like he really wants to be ready and prepared, he's even waking up early for school?! There is a maturity in him this year. I like it.
| Owen and Ethan. Both in obnoxious shirts for the first day. They didn't even plan it! :) |
Sophie is a sophomore and has 2 periods of choir. One is her own choir that counts as her elective and the other is for powerhouse because she was asked to be an apprentice and that counts as her PE credit! She loves algebra, loves her spanish teacher (a welcome change from last year) and is in an AP Chemistry class with a teacher that teaches material after the homework is given. hmmmm.. Anyone remember SI units and the prefix for 10 to the -18 power? Ya, i don't either but luckily google remembers everything about high school chemistry. We just might make it.
The babies have been staying up late and sleeping in late. They are still in summer mode. Last night I took them to the americana with me at 8:30 to return some shorts to jcrew and grab some skin stuff for sophie at sephora. We have been in our house a LOT because it's been so dang hot but it was nice and cool and the americana is so clean and welcoming, it makes you want to spend all your money. By their reactions, you'd think i took them to disneyland. Simon, pointing to the sony store, MOM IT"S SPIDER MAN!!! he ran here and there excited and pointing at everything. the movie posters, the trinkets at the kiosks, the garbage can. At the sony store, they have a camera set up so you can see yourself on a giant TV and they stood in front of that window jumping and dancing and being awesomely cute. Why don't we do this more often??
Penny, who is an unbelievable shopper walked into jcrew and acted like she had finally come home. OOOH! mom, look at these sparkly necklaces!! Oh, this polka lot shirt! I LOVE IT!!! MOM, look at this, mom, look at this skirt. mom, mom, MOM!! It was cute. LOUD, but cute.
We walk out of j crew and there are people sitting on the grass watching the fountains, the air is so cool and summery, it feels SO nice? Why don't we do this more often?
Simon starts weaving in and out of people quicker than my stroller can follow but we make it safely to the pond. He stares at the stature for a long minute. 'Mom, i can see his tooted...and his bum! While the statue is technically naked, his 'tooted' is actually covered with some well placed golden cloth. We walk over to the pretzel shop and simon keeps looking over at the statue. "mom, i can still see his bum! There's his bum!" Then he walked around to a heavy set man in front of us and said loudly while pointing, "mom, i can see his belly!" A hem... why is this pretzel line taking FOREVER???
After almost 10 minutes of waiting and lots of wrangling, I finally get the pretzel, buckle simon in and run over to sephora about 5 minutes before it closes. I know exactly what i'm getting so we can be in and out! But then I stop at the nars tinted moisturizer... just to test it on my hand. so I'm rubbing and rubbing it in and suddenly I feel/see/can't move fast enough to stop the medium lemonade that's crashing in slow motion to the floor of the very shiny, very clean Sephora. ughhhh. SIMON!!!
So I abandon the moisturizer and head to the check out where the stinking lady in front of me has to explain in excruciating detail every teeny tiny reason why she was returning, like, 5 items! Where are the other cashiers???? Oh, they're mopping up a medium lemonade. Penny is grabbing all of the pretty make up next to the line. picking up, putting back, touching, touching, touching everything (she's in heaven) and one green case hits the ground and cracks. oops... sorry about that, too.
By the time we get out, i'm frustrated and sweaty and I remember exactly why we don't do this more often.
PS. LOOKY what we found in the seriously discounted bin at CVS? hahahaha.
