First Day of School

Well, we did it.

First day of school morning.

I dropped Sophie off at her friends house so they could walk into her first day of high school together. I was kinda sad not to see her off at the front entrance. good thing i have tomorrow and about 280 other days to do it this year. Her first day photo is on her phone so i'll post when she gets home. *ah, there it is.

Here's Owen. 4th grade. In the big kid halls this year. We met his teacher outside the classroom and she seems awesome! Couldn't be happier for him.

On Saturday, the last playday of summer i asked him what he was going to do today. and he responded with, "how should i know? I'm not a fortune teller, i can't see the future!"

Ah, good to know. Owen is NOT a fortune teller.

Doug is in NY (just a short trip) so, that just leaves me and the babies today. We are going to the zoo with yvonne, although simon was up at 6:15 so who knows if he will even last that long??

Best Penny moments of the week?
when she told me she needed a drink from the "drinking mountain"" and that she had a "whisker" for me. ( a secret and a whisper -- and it was the word poop. awesome.)

i also like that she says lesterlay instead of yesterday and how everytime we walk up to the school we have to stop at this giant pink tree that is in bloom. The first time she noticed it her body almost exloded.

"Pink, pink, pink, pink tree!! it's a pink treeeeeeeee! pink, pink, pink, pink is my favorite color, I WANT A PINK FRIEND!"

She was going so crazy, i let her take a pic so she could always see it.

And now simon points it out to her whenever he sees it. "pink.... penny" with his little pudgy finger that penny has painted everyday for the last week (the fingernail, that is).

Yeah, today is a good day. Hasn't always been this way the past few months, but today is a good day.

p.s. i remember why i don't make dessert. because everyone else eats one and then i eat half a pan. the crazy awesome brownies were definitely crazy awesome, especially after about 3 hours in the fridge.

i will definitely need to change my strategy, however. either start thinking Sorbets, like this one from the abel sisters LETS EAT FAMILY, i mean, GOOD EATS. haha. (they have amazing recipes in here by the way)

OR

find people to share it with. i must save me from myself.

seriously, how do you all do it? do you have tons of self control or do you sit in a dark kitchen while everyone is sleeping and take down brownie after brownie whilst relishing the quiet? {Other people do that, im sure. not me, though..... ahem.}

  1. Love the first day photos. Such big kids.

And that's why I don't bake - seriously. Very rarely. Because who is left with a tray of brownies the next day? Mom. And I'd want to eat them. That's another reason I try some of the healthy baking - at least it's not THAT bad for me if I have some the next day, too.

  2. yes, definitely trying a different direction this weekend! and sadly, in this family, any healthy baked treat would be left for me to devour on my own anyway. which i would likely do. haha.

    p.s. what's your friday like?
