hmmmm, so then that happened.

Despite the fact that the 83rd Oscars have been univerally labeled as the worst Oscar's of all time (seriously, so painful)...

the afterparty was off the chizz-ang! haha, no really it was so much freakin fun!

James was a no-show (surprise, surprise) but doug knew so many people there, it was almost weird. He totally worked the room and it was sweet meeting so many that i have heard about but never met.

Not a huge, huge big celebrity fest. Kevin Spacey was there, people were flocking all around him.

Lindsay Lohan was there and in a dress that looked like instead of cutting out the back to reveal blue frilly underwear ala parent trap, someone just randomly cut out the entire back of the dress from the shoulder blades almost to her butt. such a mess. she was lounging all over kind of begging for people to take photos. or so it seemed from my POV.

who else? Meatloaf! tons of TV actors that i recognized by face. Michael C. Hall from Dexter. Doug chatted with him. Ugly Betty's last boyfriend on that series. he and i kept meeting eyes which sounds super lame but i was trying to decide if i should go get a photo with him and he probably was trying to figure out what was up with the weird chic looking over at him all the time. sadly, by the time i decided to just walk over there, he was gone. how tragic. lesson learned.

The other thing that is always interesting about stuff like that is that everyone really is trying hard to network and make connections. so everyone is constantly scanning the room looking into every face to see if it is a famous one. Hilarious. girls look at you, do a head-to-toe of what your wearing and then they move on to the next. Speaking of. this is the final outfit.
And it LOVED it. i felt very comfortable (especially with the tights!) and it had pockets so didn't need to carry a bag all night, fun jewelry...totally worth the money and effort to put it together. so PLEASE come borrow any or all if you have a fancy affair. this outfit needs some mileage!
Not the greatest photo, but our house was so so trashed and this was the only semi-decent room. And after seeing this pic i pulled my hair down and let it be loose. I had awesome Lyndsay that did my make up (and let me shower at her house while my kids ate all her food and played with all her toys and let me borrow tights and spanx and jewelry) but i always need hair people. too bad it was on a sunday and my saturday blow out didnt really last. Also, special shout out to Jessica, who got countless picture texts of me in dresses in dressing rooms and Rachel who answered her door with me in different outfits for 2 days in a row. it really does take village...

Overall, I guess the best part was just seeing so many people that doug has worked with from both NY and LA. a lot of the Maladies people were there, plus the investor on both of the recent movies doug shot was there and he loves doug. They talked forever. (Doug is pretty close with them and actually had christmas lunch with their family when he couldn't come home to us.)
Anyway, Charlie said that he has financed 5 movies so far and the first one that doug shot was the first one to actually make money. apparently BFF got foreign distribution at the berlin film festival and that alone put them in the black. woot!

And you'll all be proud that i didn't phantom text in a corner. i actually knew a few people and met a few others (mostly non-industry wives or friends of friends) but I stayed in the game, didn't shrink.

And the music was fun. My hairstylist told me she went to the supper club on opening night on halloween and it was all crappy techno. They must have known the oldies were going to be in the house because they had the best from 80's and 90's, plus the essential Katy Perry and Black eyed peas.

Anyway, we got in here about 3:30 and the babies were up at 6:30. saweeet.

Most of the photos are on Doug's litte Ricoh so i will have to post later.

  4. The tights were a completely perfect plan! Good pick on the dress, and I have to say I think it's the belt that really makes it for me......... You've got the style thing down pat.

  7. Emily, you look HOT! I love your outfit choice. Seriously! I'm so glad you had so much fun! And, you're right, the Oscars did kind of feel really flat this year. It was so weird. The important thing is that you are smokin'! I want your outfit!

ya whats up with the oscars? a little too education? it was kinda funnily bad. although i did love james in a dress, the harry potter remix ..but wanted to smack anne hathaway by the end. she put perky to a whole new level (and i'm pretty freaking perky myself)
