one epic weekend - from like a month ago :)

I've got to document everything that went on last weekend because it was comically busy and crazy and fun.  lots of driving, lots of parties, like holidays are coming fast .

First, Grandma Chamberlain came into town on Thursday.  doug was working on a treatment so we took him home and hit target and grabbed lunch to bring home.  then to do the pick ups from three schools.  then we went to the americana to get sophie some jewelry for homecoming.  as i was walking IN to the mall, our friend Braiden called said he was in burbank and were we available to have lunch? i sent him to our house and he and doug played corn hole until we got back from the mall. (me, sophie, grandma and penny)  I called in sick to penny's soccer practice and scrambled to find a ride for owen up to scouts at the church.  Jonathan and Caden came in the clutch so Owen took off for scouts, sophie (who would rather stab her eye with a million tiny needles than come to dinner with us) stayed home with penny and simon and ME, Grandma, Doug and Braiden all piled in braidens car and drove to Kuru Kuru sushi up the street.  mmmmm delicious.  He and to be at the airport like 5 minutes after we left the restaurant so the three of us walked home and Braiden went straight on to the airport.  Interesting side note, walking home from dinner in the cool air is AWESOME.  i think we are going to find walkable restaurants from now on.  it'l like you work off half your meal and don't feel like you have to roll yourself out of the car into the house. haha.

anyway, we got all the kids into bed and finally went to sleep. up with sophie for seminary at 5 on Friday, did all the drop offs. drove up to santa clarita to the discount dance warehouse to RE-Purchase tap, jazz and ballet shoes for penny.  she lost one each of the ballet and jazz shoes and we have torn the house apart looking for them.  She needed the mary jane tap shoes instead of the big ribbon ones from payless. so we bought the shoes and headed home to pick up simon and the elementary school pick ups, penny, seven and ezra.

then we went to penny's dance class and as soon as we got back we ordered pizza.  there were not one but TWO school halloween parties to go to on Friday night.  Owen was playing guitar in the fall festival at roosevelt and stevenson was having the BOO BASH.  we all ran over to the festival and owen played "we're not gonna take it" by twisted sister and Johnny B Goode and rocked it. so so fun. in between the songs i heard someone call his name.  he looked over with a big smile and waved.  when i looked back i saw the cutest little middle school girl with a slouchy beanie waving back him.  AAAAHHHH!  hahaha. oh my goodness she came up and hugged him and said what a great job he did. (she was there watching her little brother).  for the rest of the night there was this choreography happening with this girl. doug and the guys went to the ice cream truck, she was there saying HI.  they decide against ice cream and head back toward the main gate, and there she is again with her little friend.  'BYE OWEN'.  OHHHH GEEEZ.  cute as can be.

then doug, a tired grandma, shawn and tommy all took off and i stayed with the little 2 to get faces painted.  we waited in line for and hour and 20 minutes!! one lady and that was it.  but they just ran and played around while the parents stood in line chatting.  it was nuts.  we were just about the last people through before they closed down the booth. so simon, the skeleton and penny the dog and i walked home in the dark toward our house.  doug met us in the middle of our walk and took us home.  once we got there we had to take off the make up to put the kids in bed so they basically wore the face paint for 20 minutes, maybe?  totally worth it, obviously.

then saturday morning we were up before 7 for penny's soccer game at 8 and we also had to help clean the church. Oh, also, sophie had the ACT's on Saturday morning at 7:45 even though she was a halloween horror nights at universal until 11. ack!  Anyway,  Doug took grandma and penny to the game while i took Owen, Baylen, and simon up to the church to clean.  Fun times.  we all met at home and finally got some down time. grandma and i went shopping for pie ingredients, apple and banana cream for sunday.  we waited for sophie to get home from that crazy test and then i took owen and baylen up to baylens house and then met sophie at sephora back at the americana so she could get her make up done for the homecoming dance.  that took forever but the lady was the perfect person for sophie.  They can get a little crazy but hers was natural and beautiful. so we raced back home, fed some kids, dressed penny and simon in their halloween costumes for the ward trunk or treat, cleaned up the house and got ready for all the homecoming kids to come over and take pictures. sophie and nick, dana and grayson, kara and his date and liam, one of the funniest guys at school all came over.  their parents came along and we all chatted and took pics.  as soon as they took off we went straight up to the church for the Trunk or treat. we missed the dinner part, so the kids went straight to trick or treating for candy.  penny was a ballerina, simon was an elephant and Owen (against his will) went as a giant baby, just like baylen. big plastic diaper and binky and everything.  throughout the night i kept checking my phone to see if sophie had texted about the homecoming queen. did she win? did she lose?  i assumed the latter because i hadn't heard anything.  as we were getting ready to leave we realized that we were starving because we never ate dinner, so we drove down the hill and decided to go to In and Out.we turned around and went half way up the hill to in n out.   I always use the drive thru but for some reason we decided to go inside and sit.  we sat and ate with penny simon and grandma and at about 9:45 all these kids from Burroughs homecoming came in.  I asked one of them who the homecoming queen was, they said, "sophie chamberlain" and i screamed like, AHHH!! that's our daughter!!!. and then laughed and laughed and laughed because the whole restaurant turned and stared at us and also because we looked like hobos in the booth with our hamburgers and we had no idea what was going our girl.  So we texted with her and she was freaking out and you could hear people in the background saying, congratulations sophie! contrats! she was saying thank you! thank you so much! thank you! and couldn't even talk to us so she and nick and liam ran home after the dance to change her owie shoes and doug took more pics.  I'll post as many as i can.

we went to bed really really late.  then we got up and lazed around a little on sunday morning but then we had the Primary Program on sunday at 1.  i was so so nervous.  i was in charge this year and our music lady was aweomse but the kids were a total total mess on both rehearsals.  But it was so wonderful.  Penny sang a solo of the first verse of "I will follow God's Plan for Me"  Then Owen played guitar solo with the piano first and then accompanied the kids on the rest of the verses.  everyone had parts and all in all it turned our really well.  Then we had the missionaries and some friends over for dinner, went to bed late and then got up for seminary, school drop offs and then finally took Grandma to the airport.  OH WE LOVED having her with us.  she and doug got some really good one on one time and she ran around with me too.

Grandma is going on a mission to Federal Way Mission, Washington on Dec 1. Such a good example to our family.

alright now i'll add the pics.

  1. Oh my gosh! What a weekend. Sounds so awesome and so crazy and exhausting all at the same time. Such great memories. HUGE congrats to Sophie. That is so amazing but totally not surprising. She's awesome! And I can't believe you braved Ouija. The trailer alone freaked me out. But I'm a scary movie wimp BIG TIME! Owen is adorable as usual and super cute about that girl, but he's already taken, so I hope she understands. LOL! ;-) You're such a super fun and cool mom!
