So I was thinking about neighbor gifts this week and what I like to get, what I like to give, etc.
Lori has 2 good ideas in the cookbook she made me for our chamberlain family Christmas exchange last year.
I just might have to try these this year.
Christmas Mix
10 oz package mini pretzels
5 cups rice chex
5 cups Cheerios
2 cups peanuts
1 lb M&M's
2-12oz packages vanilla baking chips
3 T vegetable oil
Mix pretzels, chex, Cheerios, peanuts, and M&M's together. Microwave chips and oil 2 min and Stir. Pour over mixture and dump onto wax paper. break apart when cool.
Sounds super easy and would look really cute in a glassine bag with a pretty wide bow at the top, don't you think?
Ps. This is the note that was attached to the recipe.
Since we got this cookbook Sophie thought she was calling her neighbors white trash, I let her know this week that it was just another name for the Christmas mix. Haha. Although, I don't know her neighbors maybe they totally hang out drinking beer in their underwear all day.
And secondly, Christmas Apples
6 granny smith apples
1 bag caramel
1 bag white chocolate chip morsels
Cinnamon and sugar mixture
Melt caramel in microwave with water according to melting instructions on the bag. Dip apples. Place on wax paper. Set up in fridge for 30 minutes. Melt white chocolate chips with 1 T vegetable oil. Dip apples. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Reset in fridge
So, What do you like to give to friends and neighbors for the holidays?
My mom does turtles and Christmas balls. Both are chocolately and nutty and extremely addicting. (Can't wait!)
What else? Peanut brittle, anyone? A bottle of martinelli's or some other yummy sparkly drink? I've done that before, it's fun to get and give.
Anyway, here's to getting our Christmas on!

Not sure which one of the many ideas I will use from pinterest. Last year just did baked goodies. One of my neighbors gave me wrapping paper with "wrap yourself in the spirit of the season" which was really cute.
ReplyDeletePinterest!! Love, love it. I love all your boards, by the way! Such a surprise you have amazingly good taste!? Haha oh yeah. Not a surprise at all. :)
ReplyDeleteI usually make toffee but it is slightly high maintenance b/c you have to stand there and stir it constantly. I liked the dark chocolate, cranberry, pistachio bark idea that she had on Skinny Taste. Also, I love getting the sparkling drinks (or giving them) -- from Trader Joe's. Or just go to TJs and find some yummy stuff. Their truffles are amazing, and so is the peppermint yogurt pretzel slims. Also you can make those oreo truffles. AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh! Peppermint Joe joe's. I want some right now! Especially the dark chocolate covered ones with candy canes on the outside. Ymmm
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I loaded up on wrapping paper a couple of weeks ago to do the gift that Renee mentioned. Sixteen rolls from Target, two per neighbor. I guess I use the term "neighbor" loosely.
ReplyDeleteI like that wrapping paper idea. I like getting treats but after a week or so into the season, the treats just get too much. One year Charlotte Bjarnason made "Christmas Granola" in these cute little jars. That was nice b/c it was a healthier treat.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!! After a while another plate of cookies or brownies just dont sound as good. I thought about making playdough for families with kids and attach a cookie cutter or two.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas, ladies!!
I have a peppermint bark recipe I use every year that I give out. Super easy, and very pretty in a bag with a bow. :)
