Goodbye October

So, the kids preschool wisely scheduled an inservice day yesterday, the day after halloween.  They say they do it every year.  How smart is that? So, we had a little day off and it turned out much better than the moms day off because we went on a playdate.  Penny's friend Joe has a little sister in Simon's class which means everyone has someone to play with.  it was great. plus they live in the hills in this really REALLY big beautiful home.  When we left, penny said, "wow, joe has a pretty house!"  I thought that was funny coming from a 3 year old.   Although, i distinctly remember sophie at 3 years old complimenting my Grandma Olson's church shoes while we were visiting her one Sunday.  They notice a lot more than we know, i guess.

Halloween night was fun. The big kids went out with friends (you can imagine the babies trick or treating pace would drive the big kids INSANE, haha.) We ate at the Swierenga's with just our two families. Rachel was hospitalized with Meningitis (?!)  last week so we kept it really low key and went up our street, which was a bit of a ghost town, and down the next block which was really decorated with tons of kids about.  When we got to the bottom of that street, they were all tuckered out.

Simon was so SO cute but everything freaked him out.  The masks, the skeletons hanging, everything was really spooky to him. The first few houses he would lock eyes with something, start shaking in my arms and whimpering so i would turn around to take him back to the side walk but he DID NOT want to be left behind so he would cry and lean toward the house until i took him back into the hot zone.  It was like he just wanted to power through knowing there was candy at the door.  He learned quickly at the trunk or treak. .

He would hold out his bag and say trick or treat and then thank you and then happy halloween in his little simon speak. a-dorable.  By the end, he was much less afraid and almost keeping up with the bigger kids.

Doug has all the photos so i'll post them asap.  and yes, i know whenever i say that it means there will be no photos.  but ill try harder this time.

Other than that, sophie had her last volleyball game yesterday. they were playing their biggest rival andlost both games, BUT the JV and Varsity won so that made it all better.

This guy showed up to cheer sophie on.

Doug was very interested in this kid. I'm sure this kid was not so happy he sat behind sophie's dad waving her poster. Especially when said dad turned aorund and started taking pictures of him. haha.  He looks like a nice kid, no?

Last night, at 10:05pm, we had 3 of our 4 children still awake! We were dying!! Doug and I were working on a litlle project in the living room so we were going to be up anyway, but we wanted THEM to be asleep.  Sophie doing homework, of course, Owen was reading (he always has a hard time falling asleep) and then Penny ended up falling asleep on the way to scouts with Owen earlier in the day and slept for an hour.  Oh boy.  never again.  i will fight tooth and nail to keep her up from NOW ON!  She was up until midnight.  she listened to music, got out and played with toys, called for drinks, began singing really loudly so finally i took my computer in at 10:30 and let her watch a show.  the next time i went in she had finished her show and had been watching nine minutes of EastBound and Down.  o crap.  what is that even doing on my computer?? i seriously have no idea. She finally crashed at midnight, simon woke at 3:50 and then i got up with sophie at 5.  I think i'm going to need a nap today.
