I'm back

I think, anyway. I'm back enough to blog about this wedding Doug and I went to this weekend. One of the commercial directors that he shoots with quite a bit got married and it was the coolest, most posh wedding i've been to. It was at a place called Soho house and it was the top floor of a hotel on Sunset Blvd and super exclusive, apparently. It was gorgeous and understated with upholstered chairs and couches spread about to watch the ceremony. it was like Anthropologie came and set up the wedding. So awesome!

Then we all went into a different room for dinner, passing the photo boudoir along the way. The whole hallway is plastered with 4x6 photos from the booth. The booth is all luxe with wall to wall velvet-y tufted upholstery and apparently they used to display the photos on a screen but had to dismiss that practice after people got too daring in a velvet-y curtained-off room. So, we jumped in and snapped a very clean, very happy photo.

Then in the room for dinner they had a hand cut silhouette artist there to do silhouettes for everyone. we got to keep one and then we pasted another in their book with our message to the bride and groom. it was incredible! He was so fast and cut all night long.

The girl from Cougartown that we met in palm springs in may, totally TOTALLY blew us off. not that i thought we'd be best-ies but seriously, at dinner in palm springs she was planning our second wedding so we could renew our vows cuz she thought we got married way too young and should have the wedding of our dreams. And this weekend when we went up to say hello, they said hello and promptly took off to another area of the room leaving us there to momentarily feel like mega losers. hahahaha. Oh, the fickle way of TV starlets.

Thats ok, though. The Mom from Modern Family was very nice and really into Doug. or at least his grey suit, anyway. she was grabbing onto his arm and laughing a lot and staring at him right in the face. She was DYING over the fact that we have 4 kids and kept asking where he got his suit. Very, very funny.

And Uncle Ross would be jealous to know that Kelly Kapowski from Saved by the Bell was there. in a dress that belonged in the 80s. On the upside she had much, much better hair.

Oh, it was fun. We dressed up and ate amazing food and got home late. awesome.

  3. I met the mom from Modern Fam at TJs once... she was playing with Audrey in line. She was really nice. Super outgoing I remember. Talking to everyone. How fun to hang with the stars. You're in the big time. What did you end up wearing?

  4. This is awesome, Emily. You know I love this kind of stuff. I'm really sad that Busy Phillips kind of became a loser on your second meeting of her. I had high hopes for her because she seems kind of fun when I see her in interviews on TV.

I worked with a girl who went to school with Julie Bowen (the Mom from Modern Family) and she had some interesting stories about her, not appropriate for the internet. I also saw Julie at the park with her twin babies one time. What was the deal with her flirting so much with Doug?! Hands off, lady!

Oh, and when I worked at an acting school in Hollywood, "Kelly" came in a lot to do dialogue coaching. I have to say she was always super nice to us girls in the office. And so was her husband. Really nice people.

Love the photo booth idea and the silhouette portraits!!!

    So curious what you wore!

  5. can you believe i don't have a full body shot of the two of us together? lame-o. But doug has one of me on his phone. i'll grab it and a few others when he gets home tonight.

figuring out what to wear is always the hardest stupid thing! i bought a black retro-y dress from modcloth and it ended up working ok. not without drama of course, but by the end of the night it was fine.

    And I love your hair.

I'd like to see a full body shot too. You always find cool stuff to wear to functions like that.
